Here we are Spring Break 2011 BABY-too bad I am in Eau Claire working because my “Spring Break” was over winter break in Costa Rica. (Pictures just posted :)) I will just briefly update everyone on where I am in my life today. I miss dearly all of my relatives but particularly my families from Tomahawk and Costa Rica the most. This past fall semester was one of my harder semesters (2 history courses-1 a Spanish history course, an economics course, Spanish pronunciation course, and power walking). Okay so power walking wasn’t a struggle, but getting through history that is definitely a struggle. What got me through last semester was my future* trip to Costa Rica in January 2011. Well to say the least after we got on the plane in Chicago that trip was AMAZING. I think Tommy has fallen in love with our family there, the country, the people, and the culture.
The trip to Chicago was a little stressful not knowing whether or not Tommy could get a valid passport to travel the day before our flight was scheduled. His expired within 30 days of our trip and that is not considered valid for the country of Costa Rica-therefore we left Friday morning at 1 am to get to Chicago to the federal building that can issue passports within 24 hours. I ended up driving with one half hour nap pit-stop at 3:30 am. I made Tommy keep me awake, but that didn’t mean I was the happiest person at that moment. Our appointment was at 9, but we could enter the building at 8:30 and since it was a Friday the guards let us go in at 8:45am. We anxiously waited in line and the teller asked us when our flight was and we told her tomorrow and asked how fast we could get the passport. She replied with how about 1 this afternoon. Our hearts, well at least my heart jumped for joy. I am pretty sure Tommy’s did as well, since that meant I would be a little less harsh to him the rest of the trip. We would be on schedule for our flight on Saturday! Upon arriving my family banged on the glass and screamed. They came in 3 cars because that is how many it took to fit everyone into the vehicles. That moment in time was sooo amazing!
The two weeks flew by and led us to a depressing second semester. Depressing only because I am not in Costa Rica for my second semester. My courses this semester are more to my liking; Human Behavior in the Social Environment, Social Work Methods and Statistics, Woman’s Studies, Latinos in the U.S., and State and Local Politics(not so much to my liking, but it’s manageable). It has really helped with the understanding of Governor Walker and his undermining tactics of taking away the rights of people and the illegitimate law-passing practices of our fellow Republican Assembly Members. This semester seems to be flying by just as fast as it is already the middle of March with snow melting and Spring Break (which means everything is downhill from here-I hope).
I am looking forward this semester to visiting my friend Becky this weekend in St. Cloud, MN (a trip that has been in the works since freshman year of college)- I guess I can’t say that my Spring Break is going to be a bust because this weekend WILL make up for working all week and being lonely doing homework during the days. Other things I am looking forward to this semester would be my trip home in April (the first time home since Christmas), Easter in Eau Claire with my family, and the half marathon I am running with Bridget May 1st. May 1st coincidentally will be Tommy and I’s 1.5 year :) I am in the process of training now, and have reached the 9 miles training day, this coming Sunday will be 10 miles. My dad said if I can run 9 miles, I can run 13.1. I also know I can run 13.1 with the rest of our trainings as scheduled and so I am really looking forward to accomplishing this feat!
After that there will only be 2 weeks of normal school and then finals week. After finals week I am looking forward to going home again for Keaton’s graduation! I can’t believe we will all be out of high school! I will be able to join my family and friends in the celebration of Keaton’s Diploma. I will be able to catch up with a lot of people including many family members who I have lost touch with over the year.
Summer will be here soon enough, and again I will be in Eau Claire. As of now I have 2 part-time jobs lined up for the summer, I would really like to have a full-time seasonal job along with the 2 part-time jobs. So currently I am in job searching mode-still waiting to hear from 3 jobs. This is all accurate unless someone really wants to step up and sponsor me so that I can travel the world and understand culture from many different countries, and catch up with old friends from other countries!
